The Boulevard Senior Living – St. Charles Recognizes National Assisted Living Week

Established by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995, National Assisted Living Week® recognizes the role of assisted living in America while providing a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and the surrounding communities to recognize the role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities. The annual observance encourages assisted living communities around the country to celebrate the individuals they serve while simultaneously educating members of the public about what assisted living truly looks like.

This year, The Boulevard Senior Living – St. Charles is celebrating the 2022 theme of “joyful moments” from September 11th to September 17th by recognizing how each department plays a role in creating joy for our residents and staff members.

Being a leader of a senior living community is a great honor. It is a very enriching and rewarding career as I enjoy spending time with and learning from an older generation of adults. One of the biggest joys is learning their stories, which are fascinating.

The team at the Boulevard creates joyful moments daily. The most beloved event is Happy Hour which occurs every Friday. The staff truly care for the residents which is evident in little things from braiding a resident’s hair to make her feel pretty, to bringing a balloon to brighten a resident’s day. Even in the tough times, there are ways to bring joy such as delivering a tray of goodies to a room where a family is sitting at their loved one’s bedside. Hugs and smiles go a long way.

I sat down with Assisted Living Resident Tom Ohmes and asked what brings him the most joy about living at The Boulevard St. Charles. He said, “Watching Wheel of Fortune and hanging out with my friends. We watch movies, sit outside, and have fun during meals at our table.”  When asked what his favorite memory of his time at The Boulevard was, he said, “I can’t answer that. Most of my memories are good, but I don’t have a favorite.”

We plan to make National Assisted Living Week special in our community. Each department has a designated day in which they will be dedicating their time and talents, with each department head leading an event honoring the theme of joyful moments. For example, our very talented Memory Care Director Chris Baker is going to lead a reminiscing discussion on joyful moments and create an art piece to reflect the discussion. Our Memory Care residents love being creative and watching them certainly brings joy for all!

Follow us on Facebook to witness all our joyful moments, but especially from September 11th to September 17th as each department celebrates National Assisted Living Week and the many ways each team brings joy to our community staff and residents!
