As Resident Services Director at The Boulevard Senior Living of St. Charles, I’ve seen how a strong sense of community transforms senior living. It turns a place to stay into a place to truly thrive. Building connections among residents, team members, and the surrounding neighborhood isn’t optional — it is essential for fostering well-being, joy, and purpose.
Creating community begins with understanding what makes each resident feel valued and included. It means designing experiences that spark conversation, laughter, and shared memories. Whether it’s a small group gathering, a holiday celebration, an Act of Service, or a themed event, each moment strengthens relationships and helps residents feel like they belong.
Every interaction becomes an opportunity to weave the fabric of community. When residents feel connected, they enjoy their days more fully and experience the emotional and social benefits of genuine human connection.
To me, community in a senior living setting means living together like family. It is sharing life, laughter, and meaningful experiences. Together, we celebrate, support one another, and create a true sense of belonging.
Building these connections is essential. It creates a positive and welcoming environment. It is incredibly rewarding to share experiences, offer support, and celebrate each person’s successes. These friendships make our community feel like home.

I encourage residents to engage with one another by introducing them, learning about their interests, and inviting them to daily events. It is uplifting to watch new friendships form and see our community grow closer through shared experiences.
I also connect The Boulevard to the surrounding town through meaningful partnerships with local schools and businesses. These collaborations support education, service, and shared growth. They strengthen our ties to the broader community and enrich the lives of our residents.
Some of my favorite events that bring people together are Happy Hour, Karaoke Night, bingo, and craft sessions. Watching residents relax, laugh, and enjoy one another’s company is always special. Each event builds joy and connection, qualities that make our community feel like home.
To help new residents feel welcome, I rely on the power of a simple hug. This small gesture communicates warmth, acceptance, and support. It helps each person feel valued and loved from the moment they arrive.
At the heart of our community, connections are everything. Every conversation, shared laugh, and meaningful moment enriches the lives of our residents. As Resident Services Director at The Boulevard Senior Living of St. Charles, I’ve seen how intentional efforts to build these relationships can transform daily life — turning our building into a true home and creating memories that residents and families will treasure.
By prioritizing relationships, engagement, and belonging, we do more than plan events — we build a vibrant, supportive community where everyone can thrive. Ultimately, the connections we nurture make all the difference.
