Dispelling Senior Living Myths

Arrow Senior Living is known for doing things a little differently and challenging the status quo within the industry. It’s just who we are! Even with all the technological conveniences of today such as social media and websites, it is still common to meet individuals with a skewed perception of what senior living looks like. In this blog, I want to share my senior living journey, why I remain committed to the industry, the biggest myth I believe exists, and how to help others overcome the myths surrounding our beautiful Boulevard Senior Living – St. Charles community and services.

In 1997, my journey in long-term care began as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. Over the years, I dedicated myself to refining my skills and broadening my expertise across various therapy settings, including home health, nursing homes, and educational environments. In 2017, propelled by a desire for further growth, I pursued and successfully obtained my Nursing Home Administrator’s License.

For me, working in long-term care transcends being just a job—it’s a genuine calling that fills me with immense joy. I cherish each moment spent with the residents I serve; they are the heartbeat of my work. Their presence brings light to my day, and I eagerly anticipate coming in each morning to bask in their warmth and wisdom.

One of the most gratifying aspects of my role is the opportunity to reminisce with residents. Whether we’re delving into cherished family photographs, sharing stories from their pasts, or leafing through old magazines together, these moments of connection and shared history hold immeasurable value.

A prevalent myth about senior living is the misconception that it’s a place where individuals fade away. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth! Despite the growing emphasis on aging in place, it’s vital to recognize the sense of engagement and companionship found within a senior community—attributes that home health services alone cannot provide.

If anything positive has emerged from the challenges posed by COVID-19, it’s the deepening bond between residents and staff. Relationships have evolved to the point where residents and staff become akin to family, offering not only care but genuine connection and support.
